Changing your nameserver settings for a third-party host IP address

1&1 internet:

1and1 are a UK based business who are ideal for registering domains. Email forwarding is included in the annual registration fee, webmail is available for an additional fee. Once you have registered your domain, you may change the DNS settings as follows:

[click on images for larger versions]

  • Log in to your 1and1 account, and select edit DNS settings from the drop-down DNS menu

  • Select 'My nameserver' under Basic DNS settings, then update the namerver entries [nameservers illustrated below are for WebHostingpad, the hosting service that I currently use]. You must obtain the correct nameserver for your hosting service.

This will re-direct both website and email to your chosen host server, if you want email records to remain with 1and1 internet, change the IP address as below:

  • Within the same page, keep the Nameserver as '1&1 nameserver' , select the 'other IP address' radio button and enter the IP address of your host server.
